Cedo 555 Blog #3

The past couple weeks there have been no classes, but I have to say, I was far from bored.  I have been hard at work setting up my portfolio for everything I have been doing up to this point in the cohort.  I didn't feel that the work these past few weeks was hard, however, a lot of time was needed to look back at what I did and determine what I was going to include in the portfolio.  I enjoyed looking back at my old work.  It really made me realize how much I have done in the past year and a half.  I can definitely say that before I started this program, I was unaware of a lot of educational technologies available.  It has been well worth my time to discover the new technologies taught in this cohort as it has helped me in my teaching career as well as my personal life.  I am looking forward to finishing my portfolio and sharing my portfolio with others.  I'm hoping the information I have learned can be shared with many other people.

  1. I too have been very busy looking back at all my old work. I was also pleased to see how much I have learned. However, I ran into a problem with a few classes. For example, some classes the Wiki was deleted or I no longer have access to the Angel part for that class. This bothers me that I can not look at the class anymore to help refresh my memory. Did you run into the same problem?

  2. You are absolutely correct – we have learned so much! It’s is hard for me to remember life without Google Docs, sites, RSS feeds, twitter, etc. These are all things that I learned in this program. I thought I knew a lot about technology . . .little did I really know. The portfolio process is a time consuming one, but allows a lot of reflection. I am amazed at how many different programs and sites we have uses in our class that now I use with my students. The assignments were not always fun at the time, but I am sure glad we did them!

  3. The portfolio is a great way to summarize what we have learned, but I also like to think of it as a way to take that knowledge, collect it, and then use it to solve current and future problems. Along the way we were so busy learning about the individual pieces of online learning that we often forget to look at the big picture. When you step back are there any themes that jump out at you? For me the biggest is the idea that the class should produce most of the content. They should be guided by the instructor, and directed towards the learning goals that the standards lay out. However by tapping all of their individual experiences you will have a richer classroom.

  4. It is pretty awesome how much work we have done so far in the masters program. As you are organizing your portfolio is there anything that jumps out as an assignment that was particularly useful or powerful in terms of a learning moment?
