On to another week and now we are starting to get into the nitty gritty of the class. This week we had to set up a Google site page that will act as our portfolio site. It has been a while since I have worked on Google Sites, so it took a little time to play around and set up my site. After a while, it wasn't too bad and I got my site set up with a home page and sub pages which will be used for sharing my work, my vision and mission statements, standards my work follows, as well as a page sharing a little about myself. I am excited to see the end product, but know it will take a lot of work and time to make this site look good and be user friendly.
In addition to starting our portfolio site page, we also had to come up with a vision and mission for our site. I Googled to find examples, and that did help me, however, it was not an easy task to think of a vision and mission statement. I made mine short and to the point, but I felt it was actually pretty hard to get a perfect statement down. I felt myself brainstorming a lot. I honestly thought it would be easier to think of these statements than it actually was. However, I am happy with what I produced and think both statements are powerful and do what they are intended to do. Bill your blog is perfect. It is exactly what I needed. I just finished writing my blog about how I was having a really hard time coming up with a mission and a vision statement. I also said that it would be great to see an example of what others are doing either in my cohort or people who graduated before me. I really appreciate you sharing this. This has helped me greatly! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnytime Crystal! I'm glad I was able to help!
ReplyDeleteI completely understand why you found this assignment difficult. It is really hard to distill the plans, hopes, and philosophies of a lifetime down into a few short sentences. I like your statements, especially how you kept the language easy to understand. The only suggestion I have is to explain more why you want that vision. For example, you say that you "will consistently study and learn new educational technologies" but what will you do with them once you have learned them? I think you want to learn them so you can improve the experience of your students, or something like that. Putting that in the Vision will make it more compelling. Just a suggestion.....

DeleteI really like your idea about a page dedicated to just explaining a little bit about how you are. I think that it's good for people to know one's background before seeing their professional work. I also liked the looks of your site. Great work, keep it up!
