Week 4 of Cedo 535
This week we had to work on a podcast or screencast. As decided to do a podcast using a site called Eyejot. Eyejot is very easy to use and is free. It's a great way to record your self as a video message and either send that message to someone via email or post it somewhere someone can see. As I was doing this, I came up with a great idea. I currently have a Facebook page for two of my classes. I typically post questions on the page for students to answer. I think I'm going to try to post some Eyejot messages that the students can watch then respond to. This may be more interesting for some of the kids rather than just responding to some written questions. They seem to like to see me on video when I share videos of me in class, so this may be a way of extending their learning. I will have to try this and update at a future time.

I also used Eyejot for my video podcast, and was quite happy with the quality. I think your idea of posting videos to your facebook account was a stellar way to increase student level of interest. Have you thought about maybe having them post Eyejot movies of their own?
ReplyDeleteI like the way you use Facebook. I have a feeling that I would at least be able to get some of my students to know what might be going on in my class if I used a facebook account for my classes. Using Eyejot seems a good way to enhance student buy in since most kids are more attracted to video messages than text. I'll have to see how I can implement this in my class.
ReplyDeleteThinking about what you said gives me an idea too. I could also have my students respond to questions by using eyejot. Then they can each share theirs. Another idea would be a randomly selected 5 would be shared. This is a great idea to help students teach themselves how to explain themselves exactly how they want. In math it is always hard for students to learn how to explain what they did and why. Thanks for the great idea!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to incorporate more technology into your teaching. The use of Eyejot would make the assignment more personal for your students. You could also send messages to students that are out sick or missed school for an extended period of time. This would be a more personal way for them to stay in touch and focused on school. Eyejot would be a nice program for the students to use and learn – maybe there would be less bullying if they had to see themselves acting mean? Just a thought!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly are setting the bar for incorporating technology into your lessons. I like the idea of sharing questions via social media. It would also be a good way to connect with parents.
