Week 4 of CEDo 530

I found this week to be a lot of work yet very, very interesting.  It think this will be one of the weeks that I look back on and say "wow, I use a lot of that stuff now."  First of all, I spent a ton of time on my Pecha Kucha, but I really enjoy it.  It think this is a really great way to use Voice thread and keep yourself disciplined enough to not spend too much time on each slide you present to a group.  I am very happy with my presentation.  I did mine on baseball stadiums I have visited, so if you are interested in that topic, please take a look at mine.

The other topic we investigated this week that I really think is practical is Prezi website.  I am really serious about going back to all of my power point presentations that I have for my students' notes and changing them to Prezis.  It's amazing what a different presentation product can do for a presentation.  It's great to be able to zoom in on really important aspects of your presentation as well as being able to move all around to keep the audience engaged.   I'm hoping we can use this tool more during this cohort.

  1. It's pretty amazing how many new tools and techniques we've learned over the past 9 months or so; isn't it? And the best part is that we can actually begin using and applying what we're learning right away. I like your perspective on the Pecha Kucha and the fact that it helped keep you focused and not spend too much time on any one slide. I look forward to seeing your PK on the baseball stadiums!
Prezi is a very cool application that I also really liked using, but just like anything (Power Points, for example) if over used it loses it's novelty. Are there other presentation tools you plan to throw into the mix as you revisit and revise your previous Power Points?

  2. I also agree that the Pecha Kucha is a really neat thing, but how many times did you have to do the voice over? No matter when I do it, it seems that I sound like I am slurring or mumbling. Maybe it could be due to the distance of the mic or something, but any input would be welcome.

  3. Bill---

I think it's really cool that you did your Pecha Kucha on your trips to baseball stadiums. As a baseball coach/enthusiast, I look forward to looking at your site. I also thought that the Prezi was a cool idea to introduce a different format into the educational setting. Do you think this is something that your school district would be willing to purchase on a larger scale, giving you more features to work with?

  4. I'm not sure Jared.....I would like to be able to use Prezi, but it takes a bit of pushing to get things available in my district. Mike, I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe it is your mike. I have a simple 10 dollar mike and it works just fine.

  5. I commend your enthusiasm of changing all of your PowerPoint’s to Prezi – this will pay off in the long run but I think I’ll try “a few at a time” approach. My worry with Prezi is - what if our internet goes down – I wish I had a way to download them so could have them at all times, even during our frequent internet problems at school. What presentation do you think you will convert first? I wonder how your Prezi presentations will change from beginning use to expert use (presentation #1 to #30?) I know when I look back at my early Power Points I just cringe and wonder, “what were you thinking?” Do you think the same will hold true for Prezi?
