Social Bookmarking

I just started really looking at the social bookmarking sites yesterday and started to use Delicious.  I see this as something that will be real handy for me becasue I travel a lot in my building.  Although I am on the same login at each computer, not all of my favorites will stay with me depending on which computer I am on.  On my Delicious account, I have already made about 7 different tags.  The one I am most excited about right now is the "word activiy" tag that I made.  I am teaching a low level reading course this year and am always looking for new things I can use with my students.  Now I have an easy way to store all of the websites that I feel can be useful.  I also used the social end of Delicious to find word activity websites that other people recommended.  I have added a few of them.  Again, it's great to see what I am learning in this class is being practical.

  1. I love it when I find ways to use what I am learning! You can put it into practice instead of just reading it in a book. I can see how delicious would be great for you moving around your building. I hate it when I bookmark a great site on my home computer and then try to find it again at school, sometimes I just give up looking. This form of bookmarking allows you to always have your favorite bookmarks at your fingertips. Have you thought about how your students might use delicious? Could you create/share links for your students to utilize, helping them find site focused at their level/abilities?

  2. Bill I can see how social bookmarking would be helpful in your position. I'm fortunate to have a laptop, but things happen. I've had plenty of times where it hasn't been working and I've had to use a different computer. I have just signed up for a delicious account and I'm still feeling my way through it. Do you work in PLC's at work? Do you think social bookmarking will benefit your PLC?

  3. The social bookmarking tools evolve over time, be prepared to move to a new tool at some point.
